In Reply To Switch injector voltage mod in 1, 2, 3. posted by DVDBURN (MD) on November 09, 2010 at 04:35 PM

Message Here's some info on exactly what is going on with this modification. Of course as most everyone knows, this eliminates there being constant voltage on the injectors even when the car is off. This helps in prolonging the life of the injectors. Especially the original ones.

The wire being cut (the white wire with the black stripe) supplies B+ voltage to all of the injectors and to pin 58 of the ECU. Pin 58 is the ECU memory backup. Removing the power from ECU pin 58 does not interfere with anything else in the car.

The only thing that removing voltage on pin 58 does is clear the ECU memory such as the check engine codes. This really isn't a problem since most anything that generates a check engine code will generate the code again within a short amount of time after you start the car again. You can always run diagnostics to find out what a code means while the car is running or the key is in the on position if it won't start. There is no code that will keep the car from running and if there was, it will return again while trying to start the car.

-How this modified circuit works-
The wire that is being cut only supplies voltage to the injectors and pin 58 of the ECU. As seen in the picture below, the wire being cut and the wire it's being soldered to are both attached to the same load. This mod is just changing the path of the voltage to the injectors through the ECCS relay contacts. So in effect, there is no extra current draw than what was already there since the voltage is being taken from the same source.

The only other thing that this modification will do is clear the ECU self learn every time you turn off the car. This isn't a problem either because the ECU's ability to self learn only takes a few minutes of driving. IMO, clearing the self learn from time to time can be a good thing too. It is, BTW, an option in most of the diagnostic software for the Z.
